is a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to increasing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
To achieve its mission, JOB operates the National Business & Disability Council (NBDC) and the Emerging Leaders College Internship Program.
NBDC is a business to business membership organization providing services to employers to assist them in recruiting, retaining and advancing
workers with disabilities. At the same time, Emerging Leaders matches college students with disabilities to the internship needs of employers
wishing to diversify their workforce.
The National Business & Disability Council (NBDC), a leading resource for employers seeking to integrate people with disabilities into the workplace and companies seeking to reach them in the consumer marketplace. Services include an information “hotline”; audiovisual library; customized staff training; accessibility surveys; workshops and seminars, and more. (www.nbdc.com). Wall Street Business & Disability Group (WSBDG), a special interest group of NBDC members in the financial services and accounting fields. This group meets regularly to share best practices. NBDC looks forward to establishing other industry groups. Emerging Leaders Summer Internship Program for College students with disabilities, a highly competitive program that places undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities who have completed at least 60 college credits with a minimum 3.0 GPA into fulfilling summer internships and provides them with leadership development opportunities. Emerging Leaders partners with businesses to help them assure that outstanding talent is in their employment pipeline. (www.emerging-leaders.com). The histories of Just One Break (JOB) and Abilities! are intertwined. JOB’s Founder, Orin Lehman, invited Henry Viscardi, Jr. to serve as JOB’s first Executive Director in 1947. Dr. Viscardi subsequently established Abilities on Long Island in 1952.
